"Faces of Hunger" - A Community Relations Committee Initiative

The Community Relations Committee (CRC) serves as the advocacy arm of the Jewish Federation of Greater Orlando, representing the organized Central Florida Jewish community. We are dedicated to improving the welfare, security and vitality of the Jewish people - locally, in Israel, and throughout the world.

In response to the urgent issue of poverty and hunger in Central Florida, we are launching a special campaign, Faces of Hunger: Reality and Relief, to provide facts and practical solutions. To introduce this initiative we presented a special screening of the recent 60 Minutes Seminole County report on our homeless children, and Food Stamped, a documentary film about the difficulties of eating healthy on a food stamp budget.

We invite the Jewish community to join us in this campaign to raise awareness and find solutions for poverty and hunger in Central Florida. We are inspired by the Torah, which commands: “If there is among you a poor man, one of your brethren… you shall not harden your heart or shut your hand against your poor brother” (Deuteronomy 15:7).

JFS' Annual Food and Toy Drive

Get Caught Caring helps families in our local community who are facing financial, health or other challenges during the winter holiday season by providing them with the ability to have gifts for their children and buy food for a holiday meal.

Now through December 19 Jewish Family Services is collecting toys and gift cards to distribute to families in time for the holidays. Please bring a new, unwrapped toy (for a boy or girl) or while shopping, purchase a gift card in denominations such as: $5, $10, or $20 from Wal-Mart, Target, or your favorite supermarket to JFS.

You may drop items off at JFS at 2100 Lee Road, Winter Park or at the Jewish Academy at 851 N. Maitland Avenue, Maitland. For questions, please call 407-644-7593, extension 243.
