This afternoon, an announcement was made that a ceasefire has been reached in Israel. The Israel Defense Force states, "After eight days of operations, the IDF has accomplished its goals in Operation Pillar of Defense. A cease-fire agreement has come into effect." The Jewish Federation of Greater Orlando proudly stands with the people and state of Israel and pray that the cease-fire brings peace to the people of Israel.
The Rally of Solidarity will still be held as scheduled on November 28th at 7pm so that our Jewish community can show continued support for Israel. Babysitting will be available for children ages 4-10, on November 28, 2012 for the Solidarity Rally. Registration is required. To register please call Robyn at the JCC's registar office, 407-645-5933.
John Loftus is an internationally recognized expert on terrorism, a frequent guest analyst for the major news media, and an old friend of the Jewish community. He was the first Irish Catholic President of the Florida Holocaust Museum and a former federal prosecutor of Nazi war criminals during the Carter and Reagan Administrations.
Loftus' expose on Nazis in America for 60 Minutes won the Emmy Award for Outstanding Investigative Journalism. His syndicated radio show, the Loftus Report, is broadcast live from New York and Miami. He is the author of five books, three of which were made into films, two were international best sellers, and one was nominated for the Pulitzer Prize.
For thirty years, John has served as an unpaid lawyer for members of the intelligence community. His 2002 private lawsuit against Sami Al Arian exposed this secretive college professor as a major terrorist and eventually led to his conviction. Loftus is a pro bono intelligence adviser for the 9/11 litigation and President of the International Intelligence Summit. American Secrets, a documentary film about John's research, is scheduled for theatrical release in 2009. The American Bar Association named him one of twenty young lawyers who make a difference. He likes the "young" part the best.
