This has been a year of great accomplishment for the Jewish Federation of Greater Orlando. Here’s a look at what we’ve been up to — and a preview of what’s ahead:
Through our Jewish Teen Education Network, Federation is building a tradition of excellence with Communitywide Teen Education Days. We awarded $5,900 in Colman Israel Travel Scholarships to high school students in 2018. And we're taking the lead in bringing together educators from our local synagogues in a spirit of collaboration for the benefit of Jewish teens.
PJ Library, which is subsidized locally by the Jewish Federation of Greater Orlando, continues to grow. Thanks to increased giving, we were able to expand our subscriber base from 550 to 653 families receiving free Jewish children’s books each month! This year also saw the Orlando launch of PJ Our Way, which provides Jewish-themed chapter books to kids age 9 to 11.
Our Jewish Community Relations Council is enjoying a resurgence, thanks in large part to Community Relations Director Ben Friedman and our newly energized volunteer leadership team. In
February, Ben embarked on a first-of-its kind JFGO lobbying trip to the State Capitol in Tallahassee, setting the stage for future annual community lobbying efforts.
Members of our Bornstein Leadership Development class have been learning all about Central Florida’s Jewish organizations, which have graciously taken turns hosting class sessions. Current Bornstein class members already are actively involved in our community.
For the third year, we financially supported a women’s trip to Israel in collaboration with the Jewish Women’s Renaissance Project and JOIN Orlando. So far we have sent 56 Central Florida Jewish mothers on this journey of a lifetime! Another trip is coming this fall.
Our RAISE program launched a new job-creation division called RAISE Awareness to Hire. Through this division, RAISE works with businesses to provide a seamless transition for adults with disabilities from RAISE's nurturing environment to the competitive marketplace.
This has been a year of change on the Maitland Jewish Community Campus. We have implemented significant security upgrades, and we continue to look at more innovations that will help us better protect those who work, learn and play on our campus.
The Jewish Federation of Greater Orlando is growing and evolving with our community! Here's a glimpse at what we'll be doing later this year and beyond:
We are working closely with The Roth Family Jewish Community Center to determine areas of collaboration that benefit our organizations. We will soon be sharing Marketing and Finance staff and are exploring other synergies.
We have re-engaged our past Federation board presidents and will be drawing heavily on their expertise, insights and unique executive experiences as we fine-tune the Federation's strategy to best serve the Jewish community of the future.
We are in the early stages of securing funding for a comprehensive demographic study of the Central Florida Jewish community, the first in more than a quarter-century. This data will be invaluable to all local Jewish organizations!
Starting this fall, Central Florida Jewish organizations’ boards of directors will benefit from specialized nonprofit training from the Edyth Bush Institute, underwritten by the Bornstein Leadership Development Program.
Also this fall, you will begin hearing about Federation’s renewed commitment to Advocate, Connect, Educate and Support the people and organizations that make up the Central Florida Jewish community.
Later this year, Federation will launch a redesigned, modern, mobile-friendly website that will serve as our your portal for all things Jewish in Greater Orlando. Keep an eye on this site for more info in the weeks and months ahead!
Federation is in the final stages of implementing Salesforce CRM for gift management and donor engagement. We acquired Salesforce free of charge through a renewable grant, saving $21,000 a year in licensing fees.
